A narrow painted slate work made with oil and oil stick on repurposed Welsh slate. The piece holds a concentrated vertical trace, where colour, pressure and the natural surface of the stone meet. Its slim, fragment-like form gives the work the feeling of an archaeological remnant, a mark left behind, or a small ritual object.
Part of Rhiannon Rebecca Salisbury’s ongoing slate series, the work reflects on material memory, Welsh landscape, extraction, inheritance and the slate surface as an active, resistant ground.
