Liubov (Don Binary)

Sandro

Material: Hahnemühle Photo Rag Baryta 315gsm
Ektar 100 shot on large format
Limited edition of 10

Size: 120cm x 100cm (this includes a white border of approximately 4cm on all sides as shown in the exhibition).

Part of an ongoing series of portraits sharing the intimate lives of my queer friends and community in England.

These images take place in the private spaces of my queer friends’ homes. The photograph is a portrait of Liubov (also known as Don Binary) I friend I made at the lesbian bar ‘She Soho’ in London. Their drag stage name ‘Don Binary’ is a play on words reflecting Liubov’s subversion of gender roles in their self expression both in and out of drag as a non-binary queer individual.

I decided to create this series of intimate portraits using 4x5 large format Ektar 100 colour film. Through utilising the slow and considerate method of large format film, I prioritize the art of forming connections with my friends, sharing an evening together to learn more about each other, which I aim to reflect in the meditative and collaborative experience of producing this series.
