Leopard Slug (Limax Maximus)

Leopard Slug (Limax Maximus)

Visual art curiosity, and wearable neck scarf

Satin, Thread, Wadding

We usually name creatures of the animal kingdom with a Latin, or binomial nomenclature name, and then also provide them with a more common name reflecting their character.

The Leopard Slug’s Latin name ‘Limax Maximus’ means biggest slug. Mia has created a slug creature taking a play on these names, a very large slug in Leopard print fabric.

Designed to be worn draped around the neck, the silken fabric reflects both the typical neck scarf, and the fluid like quality of a slug.

Mia has drafted the pattern and sewn the fabric creature from satin fabric.

Mia is interested in the natural world, and our relationship with it. Such a fascinating creative as the leopard Slug deserves wonder, but is often met with repulsion. Here the translation into a scarf offers a stylish item of adornment, sparking conversation and to therefore the chance to champion the Leopard Slug.
