After Courbet's Studio (1855)

After Courbet's Studio (1855)

Made using discarded studio materials, including empty cardboard boxes and paint bottles, this painting uses objects from the artist's workspace to interrupt and direct the movement of paint. Drawing on the colour palette of Gustave Courbet's The Artist's Studio (1855), the work reinterprets the historical painting through the physical conditions of the contemporary studio rather than through representation.
