Speed of Light

Speed of Light is a minimal acrylic painting built on a carefully edited palette of primary colours, a recurring element in Leona’s practice. Soft layers of neon are woven with touches of gold and iridescent brushstrokes that only fully reveal themselves as you move around the work, giving the surface a quiet sense of shift and change as light and perspective alter what you see.

The painting explores movement within the painted surface itself. Through an experimental approach to mark-making and layering, Leona investigates how speed, light, and energy can be experienced through paint. These elements function not only as physical phenomena but also as metaphors for perception, transformation, and continuous change.

Speed of Light can also be seen in conversation with Rooms in Our Heart from the Rainbow Collection. While the earlier work presents primary colours as a calm and contemplative emotional space,Speed of Light marks a transition towards a more dynamic visual language, where colour, light, and movement become active forces within the painting.
